Remote Desktop for Mobiles is a communication tool that gives you the unique ability to connect to your desktop computer through the cell phone and interact with it remotely.

Powered by this software, the cell phone becomes extension of your eye and hand. Along with the remote desktop that you can view on the phone display in real time, you can execute mouse and keyboard commands using the phone's joystick or buttons. You can use this software with almost all currently popular cell phones and RIM Blackberry devices as well.

Using Remote Desktop for Mobiles, you can send and receive mail, browse the Internet, edit a document in a word processor, copy, cut, paste files or folders and do hundreds of other things that you typically do behind your home or office computer. And all this is lightning fast and remarkably easy. The intuitively transparent interface, simple navigation and the list of commonly used options fully compensate for the inconveniences of mobiles. On top of all this is the strong encryption algorithm that guarantees the highest level of data transfer protection.

You can test the work of the Remote Desktop for Mobiles client on your mobile device by connecting to our test server. You will make sure that the client can work on your mobile device and will see a simple demonstration of the client abilities.

Three simple steps to connect to the test server:

1. The test server entry is already added in the client address book by default. If not, you can add the address "zzzmobiles.com" to address book of the client and specify user name "test". No password is required.

Press the key "Connect" (or select item "Connect" from address book menu) for connection to the test server.

2. After successful connection, the client will display the notify message about connection to the test server. After closing it, you will see the general list of messages. In this list are output the messages about connection process, messages from the server and error messages.

See "Troubleshooting" if you can't connect to the test server or an error at connection occured.

3. Press the key "Desktop" (or select item "Desktop" from main menu) to switch on desktop view mode.

The test server works in the demo mode. It can show the work with the remote desktop and several examples of how to execute management commands. The complete list of management commands, mouse and keyboard controls is disabled.

Please note: the test server works with the latest version of the client. The latest version for various mobile devices can be downloaded from here.

Troubleshooting:

"Socket unsupport" message.

Unfortunately not all cell phones are supporting connection via "sockets". The Remote Desktop for Mobiles client can be used only on cell phones where the Java environment is supporting "sockets".

One possible way to resolving this problem it is update the firmware of your phone. Probably the latest version of the firmware already has support "sockets".

"Connection error" message on cell phone.

Most likely that GPRS settings on your cell phone is not applicable for connection through Internet for Java applications. At using Remote Desktop for Mobiles client over GPRS (or other data services like EDGE or 3G) it is necessary to set the Internet access point (APN) in data service settings.

As a rule there is different types of GPRS access points for the Internet and WAP access. WAP APN usually used to browse WAP sites on the Internet. Internet APN used by applications which needs the direct Internet access (such as IM+ Messenger, Opera Browser, WebViewer, email clients, etc) or when you use the cell phone as modem to access Internet from your PC. Specific settings (for GPRS or other data service) for the Internet APN for your cell phone you can get to know from support service of your mobile network operator.

"Connection error" message on Blackberry.

For a Blackberry we recommend use direct connection to the Internet without use the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). For correct configuration of your Blackberry for direct Internet connection please read a topic:

"How to Configure Full Internet Access On Blackberry"

http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=2185

After configuring full Internet access on your Blackberry, select the type of connection "Direct access through TCP/IP". For that, use the main menu item "Setup" - "Connections".

Remote Desktop for Mobiles is designed for all popular cell phones which support GPRS, EDGE or 3G technology and can execute Java (J2ME) applications. This software enables you to access the desktop of a remote Windows-based computer and execute mouse and keyboard commands from the cell phones and RIM Blackberry devices as well.
此处为clent desktop 和client desktop menu

Remote Desktop for Mobiles has a set of commands to view system information and manage your computer remotely. Also, you can run any console command, such as telnet, on the remote computer and receive a response on the phone.

此处为client main menu 、client response  、client command menu

Remote Desktop for Mobiles software consists of two components: the Server and the Client modules.
The Server module should be installed on the computer.
The Client module should be installed on the phone.
To work with your computer from the mobile device, you should install both these components.

Server

The Server module allows the Client module to connect to the remote computer. It sends desktop screenshots to the client and operates the mouse and keyboard based on the commands received from the Client module.

The Server module uses a TCP/IP connection to the Internet to communicate with the Client module.

There are no special system requirements for a hardware platform. The Server module runs on any PC with minimal requirements to hardware resources. This module supports Windows 98 / NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP / 2003.

The "Control Panel" program is specially designed to check the state of the Server module, control current clients' connections and manage user accounts. You can also use it to configure other server options.

此处为control panel

Client

The Client module runs on the cell phone and shows the desktop of the remote computer on the phone display. Also, this module sends mouse and keyboard commands directly to the Server module.

The Client module has the "Address book" to keep the addresses of controlled computers and store the history of executed commands that can be quickly executed again. It also has many other useful features.

The Client module runs on mobiles that support Java (J2ME) Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) 1.0 (MIDP 2.0 is more acceptable) and have no less than 2 Mb of memory. The recommended screen size is no less than 132x170 at 65536 colors. The mobile phone should support GPRS, EDGE or 3G technology. The operator of your mobile network should provide you with one of these services.

A special version of the Client module for RIM BlackBerry devices is also available.

Security

Remote Desktop for Mobiles has a strong encryption algorithm to protect data transfer between the Client and the Server modules. On establishing a connection, the Server module will open a new session in which an exchange of data encryption keys will be performed. All session data is encrypted by 3DES (Triple DES) algorithm with 128 bits key. The 3DES key is generated at random each time a new session is opened. This provides the highest level of data transfer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which GPRS settings should I use?

When using Remote Desktop for Mobiles Client over GPRS, we recommend an Internet access point (APN) as opposed to a WAP access point.

* For Nokia Series 60 devices (6600, 6620, 7610, 9300, 9500 and other): to employ an Internet access point, you must use 0.0.0.0 as your gateway IP address. In "Tools" - "Settings" - "Connection" - "Access points", create or edit an access point so that the "Access point name" refers to an Internet access point rather than a WAP access point, and set the "Gateway IP address" to 0.0.0.0

* Some Motorola V series: All Java applications require a special "Java Session" WebSession for network connectivity. This WebSession is separate from any WAP or Internet WebSessions you may already have configured.

If one isn't already present, create a new Web Session for use by Java applications: Select "Menu" - "Web Access" - "Web Sessions" - "[New Entry]". Name the new entry "Java Session", set all Service Types to "HTTP", and enter the relevant Internet access point information for your network operator.

If you're still experiencing connection problems, try entering the DNS IP address for your network operator: Select "Menu" - "Settings" - "Java Settings" and insert the DNS IP address.

* Some SonyEricsson phones: Java applications all use the first configured APN. This APN should be a Internet access point, not a WAP or MMS APN. Each APN has a unique identifier known as a CID, where the CID can be found by selecting "Connectivity" - "Data comm" - "Data accounts" - "{APN Name}".

Java applications will always connect through CID=1, so if the current APN associated with CID=1 is not a GPRS/Internet access point, simply create a new APN, copy the APN settings from the APN associated with CID=1 and then copy your GPRS/Internet settings to the APN associated with CID=1.

Then, you need an active "WAP profile" that connects using the Internet access point associated with CID=1. Use "Connectivity" - "Wap options" - "WAP profiles" and either create a new profile or edit an existing one. In "Connect using", select your newly-configured data account. Finally, back in the "WAP profiles" menu, check that this is the currently selected WAP profile.

Where I can find out the Internet GPRS parameters?

GPRS settings for Internet applications (as example: IM+ Messenger, Opera Browser, WebViewer, etc) for your mobile phone (differing from a WAP settings) you can get to know from support service of your mobile network operator.

When I try connecting, I get "Socket unsupport"

Java environment on your mobile phone don't support connections through "sockets". The Remote Desktop for Desktop for Mobiles Client can be using only on mobile phones where Java environment is supporting "sockets".

When I try connecting to the Test server, I get "Connection error"

Most likely that GPRS settings on your mobile phone is not applicable for Java applications. Probably you are using the application with a WAP access point instead of a GPRS Internet access point. Please try the following to resolve the issue:

Which GPRS settings should I use?

When I try connecting to my computer, I get "Connection error"

At first, try connecting to our Test server. With our Test server you make sure what the Client work on your mobile phone properly. Look through info about Test server on our site:

http://www.desktopmobiles.com/testserver.html

Next, if a connection to the Test server will be successfully, check that the Remote Desktop for Mobiles Server is started and works on your computer properly. For that, please start the Remote Desktop for Mobile application "Control Panel" (menu items "Start" - "Programs" - "Remote Desktop for Mobiles" - "Control Panel"). In a "Control Panel" you can see the Server service status - should be displaying "service started", and the Server state - should be displaying "Server operate. Uptime: ...".

Also, please make sure what your computer are directly accessible from the Internet and port 6100 are opened on firewall or router. The port 6100 it is default port which the server is listening for incoming connections. If on your computer are installed Windows XP with enabled built-in firewall, you should be opening the TCP port 6100 for the client connection.

For checking an access to your computer through Internet, you can try to reach an your computer by a "ping" utility from any other computer outside of your local network which have an access to the Internet. For this, open a "Start" - "Run" dialog and then enter "cmd.exe". Next, at the command prompt enter "ping <ip_address>".

Also, you can check the access to the Remote Desktop for Mobiles Server directly. For this, try to establish a connection to the Server by a "telnet" utility. Open a "Start" - "Run" dialog and then enter "cmd.exe". Next, at the command prompt enter "telnet <ip_address> 6100". This checking also should be executed from any other computer outside of your local network which have an access to the Internet.

If a connection will be successfully opened, a "telnet" will clear a screen and wait a data. Type several chars to keyboard or press an "Enter" key a few times, you will not see any text. After this, the Server will close a connection, and command prompt will be displayed.

If a "telnet" can't establish a connection to the Server for any reason, the message like this will be displayed:

If you don't know how to open access to your computer from the Internet, please contact your network administrator (or support service of your Internet service provider) to find out how to directly access to your computer from the Internet via TCP port 6100.

Also, you can get a more help how to configure your router and firewall for direct access, at the following link:

http://www.portforward.com

How do I find the IP address of my computer?

On computers running under Windows NT / XP / 2000 / 2003 you can open "Start" - "Run" dialog and then enter "cmd.exe". Next, at the command prompt enter "ipconfig.exe". On computers running Windows 9x you can run "winipcfg.exe" utility.

If I have a WLAN connection, Remote Desktop for Mobiles starts a GPRS connection. Is it possible to configure it to use the WLAN instead?

It is known that Remote Desktop for Mobiles can use Internet via WLAN. Most likely the reason is in your phone settings. In "Control Panel" - "Connections" - "Internet Setup" it's possible to set up priorities of connections. In your case the highest priority is set for GPRS and then goes WLAN. You should set the highest priority for WLAN connection.

I can't connect via WLAN

Most likely it is a problem with WLAN configuration. Your WLAN gateway may block the default port 6100 which should be opened for normal connection to the Server. Please contact your WLAN administrator to find out whether it allows you to work with such application as Remote Desktop for Mobiles. Please note that in some cases you may successfully browse WWW or send/receive mails via WLAN, being unable to use other Internet applications, it all depends on WLAN gateway configuration.

When I try to connect to my computer, I get an "Unauthorized" message

An account which you used for connection not exist on the Server. For a connecting to your computer from the Clinet, you should create an new account on the Server. For adding a new client account, use a page "Accounts" on the "Control Panel" (menu items "Start" - "Programs" - "Remote Desktop for Mobiles" - "Control Panel").

Also, chances are you have entered your account name and/or password incorrectly. Even if you believe your settings are correct, it could be that your password is incorrectly capitalized and you cannot tell because it is represented with asterisk chars. Please double-check that you've transcribed the exact same settings that you have in your "Control Panel".

Please notice: The user name are case-insensitive. The password are case-sensitive and can consists of any chars. In the Client a password should be entered exactly as specified at adding of a new account, match case.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What Blackberry devices are supported?

Special version of the Client are supporting RIM Blackberry devices series 6700, 7100, 7200, 7500, 7700 with OS 4.0 and great. No BES needed.

At first start of Blackberry client you should select a type of connection which a Client will be used. Most recommended type of connection - "Direct access through TCP/IP". Select this type and configure full Internet access on your Blackberry. Later, you can change connection type through menu "Setup" - "Connection".

When I try to install Remote Desktop for Mobiles Client on my Blackberry, I get the following error message:
"A fatal error has occurred while updating your handheld's software. Please try again."
"Unspecified error encountered [J:0x0000000A]"

Remote Desktop for Mobiles was developed on the most recent development environment offered by Blackberry, JDE 4.0. The application has more features but it only runs on Blackberry OS 4.0 and great. Blackberry and/or some mobile operators offer upgrades of Blackberry OS.

Latest service packs and updates for the Blackberry Desktop Manager solves many of the common problems with application loading.

When I try to connect to the Test server, I get "Connection error"

The Remote Desktop for Mobiles Client on Blackberry can use a direct connection to the Server through Internet without use the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). For a correct configuration of your Blackberry for a direct connection to a server please read a topic:

"How to Configure Full Internet Access On Blackberry"

http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=2185

After configuring full Internet access on your Blackberry, select a type of connection to "Direct access through TCP/IP". For that use a main menu items "Setup" - "Connections".

I cannot remove the Client using the remove button in Application Loader

This may happen with some firmware versions.

However, you can still easily remove the Client using Application Loader without using remove button:

- Run on your device Desktop Manager and connect device to you PC.
- Run Application Loader.
- Find in list of applications checked Remote Desktop for Mobiles with action: none.
- Uncheck it and press next to remove Remote Desktop for Mobiles
